The Sopwith Camel was a British First World War single-seat biplane fighter aircraft introduced on the Western Front in 1917. It was developed by the Sopwith Aviation Company as a successor to the earlier Sopwith Pup and became one of the most famous fighter aircraft of the war.
The Sopwith Camel was powered by a single rotary engine and was armed with twin synchronised machine guns, a first for the Royal Flying Corps.
Though proving difficult to handle, it was light and more unstable than its predecessor the Sopwith Pup. The way the aircraft handled provided for a high level of manoeuvrability to an experienced pilot, an attribute which was highly valued in the type's principal use as a fighter aircraft. In total, Camel pilots have been credited with the shooting down of 1,294 enemy aircraft, more than any other Allied fighter of the conflict.
Towards the end of the First World War, the type had also seen use as a ground-attack aircraft, partially due to it having become increasingly outclassed as the capabilities of fighter aircraft on both sides were rapidly advancing at that time.
After the War finished the type remained in service for some years and some Camels found their way in the aerobatic Flying Circus’s that became popular attractions in the 1920’s. This means that as well as Military colour schemes there is a wealth of other private colour schemes and livery available.

The precision parts fit is amazing, and you will not fail to be impressed. The model comes complete with white tissue, brushed motor and propeller. Our own model is coloured in some green tissue that we purchased separately. You will need a sharp knife, sand paper, wood glues of your own preference, although super glues do make for very quick building. If you would like a glue that behaves similar to Super Glue but is water based, try Super Phatic and from the same company there is now a none smelling Eze Dope.
